Fire Safety FAQs

Updated November 19th, 2025

Due to the high volume of questions regarding the Fire Alarm Systems at Cambridge, the Association is providing the following information for residents.

Why Are the Systems Sensitive?

  • New systems must meet updated City of Dallas fire-safety requirements.
  • Older panels cannot be replaced once they fail; they must be upgraded.
  • New systems must integrate with elevators, as required by the City.
  • The City review and approval process is lengthy and costly, and the Association is not given alternatives or adjustable options.

Can the Sensitivity Be Adjusted?

No. The system cannot be adjusted by the Association or management.
To reduce false alarms in your unit, please:

  • Avoid smoking/vaping near equipment
  • Clean ovens regularly
  • Do not leave food unattended on the stove or in the oven
  • Stay nearby while cooking to avoid smoke activation

(I know the above seems obvious. However, these are actual situations that have caused unit fires at Cambridge before).

Alarm Sound Reasons

Your alarm will activate if smoke, steam, or particulates trigger the sensor. Review and adjust your cooking or smoking habits if your device activates frequently.

Alarm Equipment Moves

Absolutely not. The system is interconnected. Any device that is removed, unplugged, or tampered with will:

  • Trigger a panel alert
  • Notify the monitoring company
  • Result in calls to management or fire department dispatch

All device placement is approved by the City of Dallas, and cannot be relocated by residents.

We hope this information helps address many of the recurring questions and concerns about the fire alarm system. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. By following the guidelines provided, we can work together to reduce unnecessary alarm activations.
